Debbie Lynn Gulley is a self-taught American artist who builds three dimensional stars, flags, letters, and numbers out of hand-wound string and light. Her 3D Wishing Stars, strung in neon and crochet string, flicker and shimmer once lit, an effect she calls “3-[DEB]mensional.” Her first string piece, “VISION,” dates to 1978, and the Wishing Stars grew from a PVC star her father made for the yard. After losing much of her early work along with her home in 1996, she kept making, and the current body of work took all of last year to complete. This exhibition is the first time she has shown work she describes as hidden most of her life.
