Jason Chu

Jason Chu is an LA-based artist born in 1988 to a Chinese-Burmese immigrant father and American mother. His creative journey began with movement—he grew up in gymnastics, competed for the U.S. Junior National Team, and represented Penn State as a collegiate athlete. After major injuries and life shifts, he dropped out and pursued various paths like snowboarding instructor, acrobat, and Hollywood stunt performer, etc. Painting has been the quiet constant throughout his life, sparked in high school and pursued as a college major before other opportunities carried him elsewhere. He is fascinated by repetition, symmetry, structure, texture, and spatial relationships. His work explores tension between movement and stillness and chaos and control, and he intends for viewers to feel when something has been built with intention, honesty, and presence.
