A documentary photographer and student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Melaney Wardell challenges traditional aesthetics by capturing the inherent beauty within decay and destruction. Her work deliberately avoids conventional beauty standards, focusing instead on the evocative textures of withered bouquets, the aftermath of chaos, and the somber atmosphere of cemeteries. Through her latest series, Antithetical, she explores the coexistence of life and death in Savannah’s historical burial grounds, using black and white photography to document the fragile balance between nature’s growth and time’s inevitable erosion.
